The demand for new homes in that area is great. People need a place to live and construction of one family homes outside of GB are very few. There are two neighbors who are directly next to this building who are complaining that they will no longer be able to get the sun in their gardens. While I feel for them, I also feel for people who need a place to live. That area is in great need of new families, the older people need to go to Fla.

Over developing an area is simply stupid. These are not new homes…they are apartments that a builder wants to sell for a fortune. Look at Sheepshead Bay. When did it become necessary to build on top of each other…is our population so high that we need to have bunk style housing. This is getting out of hand and the DOB is walking around with their thumbs in their asses.

If people are building and able to sell those apartments, then, obviously, there is a need for them. Simple demand and supply. The minute they won’t be needed, prices will go down. Is that such a bad thing?
And, thanks for Russians, the above mentioned neighborhoods are looking better then ever. They have more better looking housing, great restaurants, and businesses that offer people jobs.

Engaging in immigrant bashing isn’t doing any of us any good. There are a number of people in the immigrant communities here who agree with us. They are just as offended by the excess of construction as we are.
So lets get back to where this began.
The point here is that the BSA has accommodated a builder who tried to circumvent a zoning change by rushing construction, and in doing so failed meet the requirements for grandfathering a zoning change.
This sort of thing happens every forty years. A new group comes along and finds whatever they build on and builds. The last time round, in the 1960s, the developers got most of the undeveloped land. So this time around, the plan is to demolish the earlier development.
A few of us who are old enough to remember the boom here in the 50s and 60s thought that sort of thing could never happen again. But let’s face it, most of our peers moved away. I don’t buy the myth that our neighborhood fell into decay during the 80s. But as the older residents decided that they couldn’t keep up their houses, and their kids were not interested in helping them do so, the marketplace erupted with properties for sale. And this brought change to the immediate area where other long time residents lived. Some decided to get out early on because they feared an invasion of people who are “not like us”. Others took longer to notice the change. But let’s face it, in Sheepshead Bay and Homecrest a lot of people stopped fighting what they felt was the inevitable tide.
I’m afraid that we live in a society where it is considered to be quaint and odd to live all of one’s life in the community where they were born.
The immediate question is whether there are other legal steps that can be taken to stop this. Because there is a very bad precedent being made here.

the developer might have tried to take the easy way out but in the end a decision was made by the city to allow it so he isnt doing anything illegal its not like hes just building it and no one wants it im sure there will be buyers for it supply and demand its that simple
