CI Bound Avenue U and Neck Road Closed for a Year

Before

After

Thanks to Joe S. for sending this in!

Beginning 5 AM Monday, Dec 8, 2008 the Coney Island Bound Avenue U and Neck Road stations will be closed to be completely rebuilt. This project is expected to run for one year.

The stations, both 100 years old have never had any comprehensive repair. The plan is to completely demolish and completely rebuild each station. Representatives from the MTA promised wider platforms, larger stairwells, more exits, newer windscreens that are easier to clean, and vision panels.

I guess this means we will all get home that much faster!

  • Use the Kings Highway or Sheepshead Bay (B) (Q) stations.
  • Use the Av U (F) station.
  • To travel from Av U and Neck Rd take a 57 St/7 Av bound (Q) train to Kings Highway and transfer to a Coney Island bound (Q) .
  • To travel to Av U and Neck Rd continue to Sheepshead Bay and transfer to a 57 St/7 Av bound (Q) train.
  • On weekday afternoons, please transfer to the B3K at the Kings Highway (B) (Q) station. The B3K will operate on weekdays only, from 2:50 PM to 7:45 PM, on Av U between Ocean Av and Gerritsen Av to/from the Kings Highway/East 16 St (B) (Q) station. The B3K will run every 10 minutes. Travel time is approximately 15 minutes in each direction. The regular fare is charged for the B3K bus.

If I’m not mistaken, both stations will also be handicapped accessible when the work is done.

From the before & after pics, it seems like they expect at least three more people to be taking the train. But the MTA workers in their orange vests will still be loitering outside.

Hopefully, the gaps in the stairway railings will be closed so the monthly metrocards will no longer be dropped down to be re-used (illegally) by another person. Farebeater!

Don’t tell me, you’re related to GG.

The ignorence is just flowing right along.
Were you truned down for a transit job??

I’ve met a few transit workers in my time & most were not fat or lazy

Any moron could get a transit job. The tests are a joke. It is ignorance, not ignorence. I was called for every transit test I took and I took four of them. It does not pay enough and I am not lazy.

Why take 4? If the pay wasn’t enough the first time why continue to pay to take a test for a job you don’t want?

  6. [...] So the big news this week comes to us in the form of a reminder from GerritsenBeach.net. Almost one year to the day since I first reported on these renovations, the MTA has started the overhaul at Ave. U and Neck Road. [...]

I took every test I was eligible for in those days. That is why I took 4 transit tests. I wanted as many irons in the fire I could get. The transit tests were very easy. I think they made the tests easy on purpose so minorities could pass them. Getting a 95 was not hard. If I did not get called for a better job I probably would have taken a transit job. I am very happy I did not have to. They are trying to dumb down the fire test now for minorities.

To Gerritsen Beach and Joe S:

Do you have any pictures of the changes for Ave U station and/or design plans of the old and new Ave U and Neck Road stations? Can you posted to the site.

    Thanks.
