Its amazing what we take for granted on a daily basis, these pics are more than just memories. The Vollies have always been one of the Icons of Brooklyn a neighborhood favorite. All the holidays, parades, functions all done with great help by the GB VOLLIES. Apparently others feel different but you can always count on GB Fire Dept being there to Help before the City because of its convenient location. As crazy as it may seem to those who are attempting to condemn this unique structure within the greatest city on earth, even you would recieve 1st class aid from any GB VOLLIE Guaranteed. That is the way its always been. The character displayed solely by these volunteers should be more than enough to aknowledge the dedication to service and the community. To think of doing away with this organization shows an incredible lack of judgement for all involved. Im sure it would have the neighborhood asking itself if theyre voices count or just the sounds of a politically correct moron. Instead of thinking of doing away with this place how about being a bit more practical, make the place bigger. Instead of a high speed skate park for the kids to destroy relocate the vollies, consider allocating additional funds maybe get them more on board with City equipment and training. That might be to much energy though its easier to take away and add a condo I guess..Or better yet those that make all the decisions should train up and do what they do for a month. Yeah right take time away from your families and personal time huh, yeah right.. My Grandfather Thomas Dunne was a huge part of the vollies years ago as my Father was a great part of community affairs and its almost sickening to think that something so traditional and something they along with so many others worked so hard for would be taken away. The GB FIRE DEPT IS A MUST REMAIN IN PLACE ORGANIZATION, THATS THE BOTTOM LINE. To all the VOLLIES we salute you, you’re doing a great job and everyone knows it. Thanks for all you do, Keep up the good work. Happy Holidays! you too Mr politician!!

Wow. great picture and I think K Dunne summed it up. We need to show support even if it is just a phone call to a local politician or whatever.

I noticed in this picture, as well as in the picture the other day of the library, that Gerritsen was spelled back then GERRITTSEN! When did we lose the second T, and does anybody know why they changed it? Thats a good piece of neighborhood trivia!

I believe the signs were shortened and they couldn’t fit the whole name so they decided to take out a t……the same for one of the plumb street signs….they left out a b….

Who ever it was that found these photos should frame them. Make certain that if any bad news does come of this VOLLIE situation make the head figure in those deciding votes hand deliver the photos to the remaining family members. Make sure they thank their families for their service, along with all the others till the present. Considering the amount of work that would leave him/her they may just decide to leave things the way they are. Some things in the world don’t need change..
Who are the guys in these pictures? How can we find out?

Thanks for your kind words about the Vollies.

I remember your grandfather and I went to school with your father. I know that Larraine DeVoy did a special on the Vollies in Gerritsen Memories. She worked very hard on that for a very long time. She would know who everyone in that picture is. She was one of our dispatchers until she moved to Jersey.

I thought this was not a site of memories. You’d better keep it current or you will be a memory.
