“SUM” Graffiti Vandal Arrested

Via The Forum News Group

The reign of the graffiti vandal known throughout the communities of Ozone Park, Richmond Hill and Woodhaven as Sum Z, ended with his arrest at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. Police in five precincts, four in Queens and one in Brooklyn, have been looking for the elusive bandit for nearly a year. Authorities say he is responsible for tagging hundreds of locations and his etchings have been seen as far as Gerritsen Beach in Brooklyn.

John Colasanti, a 35-year-old unemployed white male, was taken into custody after he was observed by a neighborhood civic member on his way home from work. Scott Jordan was driving home after 4 am on Saturday when he observed an 18-wheeler parked near the triangle at 87th street and Rockaway Blvd.

SUM was derived from the words awesome and handsome, allegedly suggested by Colasanti’s cousin.

I doubt it’s just the one kid.

That picture above is not the work of the kid (man) apprehended. “SUM Z”did stencils. The throw up above is most likely a local who needs to brush up on his M’s.

Whats the connection to Gerritsen Beach? Is the pic above from our neighborhood? Sounds like this guy primarily graffitied up Queens.

Regards to Mike’s comment.. there’s a stop sign on Fane Ct/Devon Ave with this “Sum” attached. It’s been there for years..don’t know if it’s the same person, but I just thought I would mention it.

Now that they have caught this sum, whoever he is maybe they can catch the stinker that keeps braking the bus stop on Everett Ave. Has any one noticed we are the only bus stop without a bench?

I have been silent on this subject for quite some time now, but since my daughter has been dragged into this I have every right to express my thoughts.

John Colasanti is not from this neighborhood and is not the same “Sum” that has been tagging here as well. He did live here for some time and, yes, our daughter attends P.S. 277.

What I find sad, aside from the fact that he is not a good writer and got busted, is that a certain individual has taken it upon themselves to point out the connection to my child. I write this because I ask those who know my daughter to please do not hold her accountable for the actions of her father. She is aware, to the extent of what a 7 year old can understand, of the consequences he will soon face. And the day may come when I have to explain to her why she has not seen her father if he is sent away. So, thank you “me”, for adding to the obstacles that I face everyday trying to raise my daughter the best way that I can given the circumstances.

How dare somebody point their finger at child who did nothing? A seven year old does not deserve to be dragged into this forum. You are a disgrace, “Me”, and should be ashamed of yourself for trying to humiliate a little girl.

I think it’s pretty pathetic to point out where this innocent young child goes to school. I’ve known her mom for quite a long time and have nothing but admiration for her. She is a dedicated full time mom (working both outside and inside the home). Shame on you.

You shoulden’t have to say anything to anyone, you do not know the problems the man has caused the family and how much of a pice of crap he is. you should not, she is not making it about her self she is only protecting her child and theres nothing wrong with that.

compassion? for him? please this man has made too many “mistakes” in life and theres a limit to “mistakes” that a child should learn i suggest you learn from your mistake from opening your mouth.

He Wrote on a Wall that queers like "the Youth defenders" have to clean up.. its a cycle. Graffiti employ's over a million people, generates over $100 million in spray paint sales a year and is as much a culture to writers as new clothes are to people. As much as dog's marking their territory, pepsi can post a billboard for $30 million, we cant. Same shit. I'm sure this dude is a complete fuck up, but they will give him a bigger sentence then a women abuser. Fuck Ex-Mayor.Giuliani
