Gerritsen Beach 9-11 Memorial

DSC_5743

Thursday, September 11th

The Knights of Columbus held their annual memorial service for the lives that were lost on September 11th 2001.

There was memorial songs, poems read, prayers from Resurrection and St. James.

I have video I will upload it later. Check back.

The younger than 13 crowd that was there I guess don’t realize what happened that day or don’t know how it effected everyone older than them because they were a bit noisy and playful when they shouldn’t have been. It might be because they have absolutely no memory of that day at all; the smell, the crystal clear sky, the smoke cloud over us, the papers flying around, the buildings collapsing, jet fighters.

I agree somewhat about the younger kids and I was even concerned about my own kids behavior and beforehand told them this wasn’t playtime, it was a serious event.

Although my kids were young at the time of 9/11, I feel it was really important for them to be there that night (and previous years) to have them try and understand the lasting effect that day had/has on all of us. Its a part of history I personally never want them to forget about.

  2. Well, at least you had kids there. At Thursday at the K of C memorial in Williamsburg, I was one of the youngest people there – and I was born in the Truman administration!

I thought the ceremony was beautiful, and all the work put into in was well worth it. To the people who put it together, thank you for a job very well done. I thought the participation of the neighborhood boy scouts was very nice, but the girl scouts were dissapointing. The Band was awesome as usual, and the prayers from Fr. Farrell, Fr. Marc and Pastor were very healing.

It was a day of remembrance. Remembering where we were that day and when we were held in the safety of our families arms. Love that we share with each other. The Lives of others that were cut short and how important life really is.

Cute picture of the kids holding candles. I’ve met this group and two if the girls actually called a grown man an asshole and yelled F-You. Nice huh?
