Kouros Diner Should be Opening Soon

DSC_2427

The owners of the now closed Foursome diner are close to opening a new diner called Kouros, on Nostrand and Z, where the Chinese buffet used to be.

Good luck to them. Maybe they will let me know when it opens so I can take some pictures.

The property that the foursome was on, is going to be a Walgreens

So they say… I live a few blocks away and I’m over around there all the time. I haven’t seen them doing much work there over the last month and a half. I was wondering what the hold up was. As I recall the diner was supposed to be open already.

I can remember when that place was JAHNS where we all sat down to order what was called KITCHEN SINK. Anyone remember that? Then it was the Nostrand Ave Diner, then the chinese buffet, and now it’s going to be another diner.

I remember Jahns very well. Those ice cream sundaes were terrific. I don’t this neighborhood has a place like that anymore.

Wasn’t it once a Friendly’s before it became the Chinese buffet?

I wasn’t aware the space was ever a jahns… I used to love that chain as a kid.

As far as friendlies goes.. I dont think so. Before the Chinese buffet it was a diner – called “the plymouth diner” I believe. I remember lots of pilgrim scenes on the inside. That changed hands once or twice before closing and sitting empty for a while.

I was very happy to hear that it’ll be a diner again. I live very close and it’ll be convenient (esp if its going to be a 24 hr). Its been frustrating because it seems like next to no work has been done on Kouros for a month or so. A sign was first posted that it would open in spring.. nope… and then I heard by the end of July.. nope. No idea what the hold up is. But I haven’t heard any definite open date nor have seen any signs on the property hinting to opening.

    We’ll see….

For a time, there was a Jahn’s at the location of the new diner on Nostrand & Ave. Z. I think it was after the one on Gerritsen & Ave U closed.

I think the diner on Nostrand was called the Pavilion. Loved that place.

  • speaking of new openings, anyone know what’s being built on the corner of Nostrand and U, on the old S&D site?

A new bank with a parking lot is being built on the site of the old S&D store next to Brennan & Carr. No clue as to the name of the Bank. They have not put up any signs yet.

Its was Jahn’s and it was the Pavilion too! The development in Sheepshead Bay has been nothing short of outstanding! All you antidevelopment blogs don’t remember when Emmons Ave was a ghost town 20 or 30 years ago. I remember!

Emmons ave. was becoming a dumpy ghost town 25 years ago. It is better and safer now.

The diner is finally open and I ate lunch there yesterday. The inside looks nice, prices are still reasonable, and a lot of the people who used to work there (Betty, Carlos, Paula, etc) are back. Highly recommended.

  • CONCERNED

PRICES ARE HIGH COMPARED WITH OTHER LOCAL DINERS. THE BREAKFAST SPECIAL PRICES NEED TO COME DOWN CONSIDERABLY .

  • CONCERNED

CLARIFICATION OF THE ABOVE BY “CONCERNED” DATED 10/01/08. SOME OF THE BREAKFAST SPECIAL PRICES APPEARED HIGHER THAN SOME OTHER LOCAL DINERS. THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT, PLACE WAS CLEAN, SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE DINER , AND HOPE THEY SUCCEED.

You're all wrong. Jahn's was where the Banco Popular is. The Connie's Pizza strip of stores was a Kress, or something like that.
