  • Anonymous

does anyone know who it was?

  • anonomous

    WHAT HAPPENED????

  • M

I heard on the Brooklyn News channel that it was a homeless man, yet they are unclear whether its a suicide or not.
    Very sad…

  • Ginger

    wtf…a hanging?

  • Happyjack

Is there a link to to this story in the Daily News, Post, etc?

  • This just happened today… How would it be in one of the daily papers?

  • Happyjack

Yeah…that’s true…duh!?! It may not even go beyond the police blotter.

  • M

They left him there unblocked for a very long time. I would say about 2 1/2 hours that I know of and then they put a sheet up so it wouldn’t be viewable from the street. I think that is disgraceful that he was just left there hanging for anyone who wanted to see it. A lot of speculation going around of who it might be. I feel very sorry for this man and his family. May he rest in peace.

They could have been taking precautionary measures to make sure it wasn’t a homicide. I hope it wasn’t the guy who pan handles on Stuart and U. I talk to him every morning on my way to work and didn’t see him this morning. In any case it’s very sad, and disturbing.

Any news on the double murder on E 33 bet Fillmore & S

  • anonymous

Nick, unfortunately, I heard that it was the guy that use to hold a cup on Stuart Street and Avenue U.

  • M

I too heard that it was the same man…The name “Danny” was mentioned…does anyone know if this is the same person?

  • anonymous

News12 said he was a 70 year old man. I recall seeing a tall thin white man with white hair holding a cup on stuart and U.
He was in back of Keyfood, and when I gave him $5 he said “oh thank you so much, I didn’t expect to get that much today, now I can go and eat” he left, and I just drove off. He did look about 70. I feel really bad, and I vow if its not him to give him alot more than $5 next time.

I heard the same thing. He’s been around a long time. Used to live in a car at one point. So sorry to hear this. Very sad indeed. Thoughts with his family as well.

I jst found out it was not the guy from keyfood and ave u. i know his sister, and she has seen and spoken to him both before and after the discovery. no further details.

i just heard about the the murder and hanging at the same time..i hope it wasn’t that guy danny that holds the cup on stuart and ave u…i just saw him yesterday…there anon anon said it wasn’t so hopefully it wasn’t and i feel bad for who ever it is…as for leaving the body there..the body can’t be touch till the medical exmainer comes and looks at the body…don’t know why they waiting to cover it…such horrible news today…does anyone know the name of the couple in marine park

  • Gerritsen Girl

Please put up any more information on this, this is the first everyone seems to be hearing about this.

  • m

I heard it was a young man, my mother and father saw the uncovered body. They said he looked about 20. But since I didn’t see it personally as I was out of the neighborhood I can’t say. Supposedly the murdered couple had a junkie son they kept throwing out, so since a couple was murdered the same night people are wondering if they may be the parents and the hanged kid might be the son but that’s only speculation, as a situation suck as they isn’t too uncommon when it comes to a double homicide followed by a suicide. Again, that’s just what I heard and people are speculating about.

He hang himself by the little war memorial. And I know the guy you’re talking about, the panhandler, haha, although he seems pretty phony I don’t doubt he’s nice. I don’t think it was him since everyones saying the body is young.

  • m

Oh, and they haven’t identified the bodies yet.

  • G

I saw the body and the man had a bald spot on his head and gray hair. So I don’t think that it could have been a young man. I definately think that the couple was killed by their son. I thought that the minute I heard that nothing was taken and the dog didn’t atack. I really hope though that it isn’t the guy from Stuart st that hung himself. I’ve talked to that guy and he was a very nice grateful person.

I just read the article that from the daily news link. The neighbors that are attached heard two gun shots then a pause then another while listening to his Ipod and didn’t think anything was strange then the father heard lot banging and went downstairs and thought it was his son and the son pointed to the wall that the houses share, and didn’t bother to mention the gun shots to his dad. I think that is really very weird and that that family should be questioned a little closer. I also have a semi-detached house and if I heard the sounds of guns shots coming from their house I would most definitely call the police.

  • Avail

In a neighborhood like Marine Park I don’t think most people could reconize gun shots even if they are semi-attached. The muffled shound coming through the wall would sound like thuds and in an area where gun shots are not heard on a regular basis it would be blamed on something else like the dog getting into something. My prayers go out to their family. May they Rest in Piece. The same goes for the person that hung himself.

I know someone who knows the man who collects money on Stuart st very well, they went to his sisters house and talked to her and his daughter and they said that it was definitely not him. Which I am glad but it is still a very tragic thing to happen to anyone.

If it was the man who you were referring to his name was Dan. He was a very nice man. He has family in the beach and has a daughter upstate. When I was younger he would come into one of the local deli’s and talk about hes daughter and his grandchildren upstate. He was definetly mentally ill, but very sweet. I am very sorry for him to go this way. In the past years I would see him in front of dunkin donuts asking for money and i would get so upset. I once asked him how come he wouldn’t live with his daughter, he explained to me how he wouldn’t be a burden. I hope it wasn’t him.

It seems a bit strange that I can’t find any collaborating story about the hanging incident on the Web? Was it possibly some kind of sick prank?

  • Anonymous

It’s seems very strange to me that this story was not reported by anyone in the media, with the supposed exception of Channel 12, especially since Marine Park was crawling with Reporters yesterday as a result of the nearby double homicide on E. 33rd street. In that case, the incident details and names of the victims were released just a short time after they were discovered. You would think that one of the many news helicopters would have seen the heavy police presence near the creek when they were circling the neighborhood as it is alledged that the victim was hanging there for hours during the police investigation. I’m starting to wonder if this incident really happened at all??

  • It happened. I was there. It was explained to me by an officer and by local press.

  • g

It did happen I saw it also and so did my husband He got pretty close to the body. I also now know for a fact that it wasn’t the man from Stuart st and ave u Because my husband just saw him and was talking to him. I don’t think that if it was a prank that the cops would have let it go on for so long. They would have got the person down and did whatever to them. It was definitely a dead body as sad as that is.

  • rosepetal

It was not the elderly man on Stuart Str, and Ave U that holds up his cup. I was just at that corner, and he is very much alive. After hearing it was him that might have died and then seeing him standing ther I got so excited I gave him extra money. If he only knew why I gave him extra, he thanked me and I felt glad to know he’s O.K.

  • mary

why would you say its a prank? i live on burnett right of of whitney and i face the creek. we should be happy it was not made into a big deal, so as to scare our children who are home for the summer. The poor man was there from 9am when a park worker found him, and we saw his body being removed at 1:30pm. This happened much earlier than the Marine Park incident, and it didnt thankfully create a crowd or attract press, but i can and will attest to the fact that it happened. it has been said by the police who were assigned to the scene that the man had no id. he was not young and anyone who says that was not there. not that its something anyone should have to see. its just a shame no one saw him doing this since people run, walk dogs and push carriages there…..maybe someone could have helped.

is it true that it was the man who sat on the bench everyday taking the sun? Thats what I heard- he always had his shirt off and had a very large belly

  • anon

oh i know what guy your talking about he never had a shirt on…what a shame

  • Photojeff

Well I am quite relieved to hear it was not Danny. My wife and I look for him when we are in that area and we worry when we don’t see him. Still this loss who ever it is is very sad.
