I apologize for the string of “bad” posts but these are the things that are just happening.
A follow up to the Seba Avenue Park a Disgrace
A few days ago the bus shelter that was destroyed on Everett Avenue had its posters turn up at seba avenue park.
The seba avenue bus shelter was wrecked by a thrown beer bottle. Its horrible to have these shelters destroyed like this. We only have a handful of these shelters and alot of people use them.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100% SURPRISED!

Anybody remember when I was trying to “out” that little skell by the name of vincent “wee-man” in this forum for breaking the trees in the park?? Maybe, just maybe, if that punk was arrested, punished and forced to pay retribution for the trees he broke the example would have been set, and maybe the park wouldn’t have such runaway vandalism. That tree breaking incident set the tone-Do whatever damage you want in that park and get away with it. Where the hell is the godamn Police or Parks Dept presence up there?? Gerritsen Beach Cares? Property Owners? Beuller?? Anyone at all in this neighborhood gonna do something to stop this? The Parents of these bastards? And I’m not saying they are all from this neighborhood. We all know and see the outsiders in that park. I tried all in my power regarding the tree incident by going to these Govt. Agencies to no avail. Community watch?? You need my help, I’m there, just ask for it in this forum. I knew that tree breaking thing was only the tip of the iceberg.

You can take people out of the beach but you can’t take the beach out of people. You are a product of your environment. Chris Rock is laughing his ass off.

How about turning a few of these kids in. I’m sure someone knows who did this. Or has done things like this. Every Sunday I go outside my house and pick up beer bottles, and lately little plastic bags. What’s that about. Someone is SELLING these things to our children. We all know that. When will we step up to the plate?

Anonymous,
Are you in AA or are your parents in bars? what is this obsession with beer, cigarettes & bars?
Not everyone who leaves their teens unattended are in bars some are actually working evenings & it may even be a second job to pay the outrageous mortgage for the overpriced house in a neighborhood that is supposed to be good for families.

In response to Tiggergirl about stepping up to the plate she is so right all of those who see or hear things and do nothing about it are worse then those doing the damage.
You have the power to stop them. Remember it takes a village to raise a child. Boredom is an excuse kids use everywhere but it does not justify destruction and vandalism.

Name calling and stone throwing, about “kids” bottle throwing and name scribbling. Irony on a basic level, but still funny.
Insult an ENTIRE community because of one or two angst out nitwits. ? That works.
The community shines allot brighter than the bottom of the barrel example you love attaching it to.

It seems that most people that comment on this site want to complain or put down the entire community. It is a shame that these people do not get involved in the volunteering that makes GB one of the best communities around. Every community has it’s problems and to blame all the kids for the bad actions of a few is sad.
I see people cleaning Seba park every Saturday with GB Cares. I think anyone can help them by volunteering and do something besides complaining.

people need to take responisibly for there kids if we let them all run crazy then thats how they are going to act. All I know that when I was a kid I was afraid that my parents would kill me if I ever dis respected peoples property. For some reaseon no one seems to mind when we find bottles in our garden or condoms in our driveways this is gross & we all have to step up to the plate & stop blaming the kids for some reason they were never told to respect older people or there neighbors property for that matter I realize every one is busy but maybe the next generation will be likewe were. when we were actually scared of our parents

Anonymous, we are outside because the people who aren’t life long residents are the only ones who can have an outsiders view. I love this neighborhood as much as anyone who has been here their whole lives and I have seen some of the crap that goes on by teens and adults alike. But the difference is I want things to be better because I have a family and I don’t want them to have to live in a neighborhood where such stupidity is ignored or looked at with apathy. I take an active role in neighborhood activities and try to make it better…can you say the same? I hope so

Jealous because they don’t live in a wooden shack covered by aluminum siding? The last time I took a ride down the old section I thought I was in the hurricaine Katrina area. No wonder why you commented under “anon” I would want to hide too. Anyway, the real problem is the bus shelters being destroyed. In a neighborhood where you sneeze and your neighbor down the block says “Bless You” I find it very hard to believe no one sees or knows anything.

whatever this is one of the best and nicest places to live left in brooklyn every neigborhood has it’s little problem….this is the best place in brooklyn to live….your an idiot….anonymous is right get some glasses…if anyone knows who is destroying the bus shelters then talk cause if not then it’s going to be that much harder to correct the problem….everyone down here knows that some of the kids down here are out of control…but that’s not every kid and that doesn’t give you the right to bad mouth the parents and the houses that we live in down here…

Let’s not kid ourselves. It’s the kids from the neighborhood causing these problems. Every neighborhood has their own kids acting up, but this neighborhood is a lot smaller and isolated than others. The kids there are out of control. Whether they are on the jetskies causing near collisions, on the dirtbikes flying down the Avenue, or acting like loose animals in the pizzeria, they do whatever they like with no intervention. They have no respect for anyone and anything, let alone a bus stop.

Let me tell you this – I bought my house in the “Beach” in 2002… I bought it because i couldn’t afford to live in Marine Park, where I wanted to live… now, I want to sell and move because my children are 8 and 10 and I will kill them and then myself if they even think about acting the way 90% of the Beach Rat Youth do. I should have realized when my Father-In-Law told me what comes from here. Now, I have to fight the lifers (who have 3 cars each) for a spot on the street (just ONE spot is all I ask for), I have to cover my kids ears when they’re in my “yard” because the local slum are walking down the street cursing like sailors and to top it all off the value of my house has tanked (although, that is city wide)… I should have sucked it up 6 years ago and not tried to save myself the $50K – hind sight is always 20/20… I just hope that my next move is a smarter one. I can’t wait to leave… I just hope it is before my children are too widely influenced… thank God I sent them to school outside of the area…

WOULD IT HURT FOR ANYONE IN THIS COMMUNITY TO HAVE MORE PRIDE? OUR HOME VALUES SHOULD BE GREATER THAN WHAT IT IS, BUT OUR NEIGHBORS ARE LIVING AND ACTING LIKE “SLOBS”. I HAVE SEEN TRAILER PARKS CLEANER THAN GB!
TAKE A MOMENT AND THINK; IF I ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILTY OF MY KID’S ACTIONS, CLEANED MY YARD, TOOK OFFENSE TO THE LABEL “BEACH RAT”, I CAN INCREASE THE VALUE OF MY HOME SIGNIFICANTLY!…….YOU PEOPLE COULD BE SITTING ON DIAMONDS……ARE YOU SMART ENOUGH TO PICK THEM UP?

Dear Anonymous who moved to GB in 2002,
First, let me comment by saying Gerritsen Beach is a great community. Also, let me focus on the fact that P.S 277 is one of the best schools in the district and the majority of the kids that attend that school are Gerritsen Beach kids! Go figure. So if you live in Gerritsen Beach (because you can’t afford to live anywhere else) and don’t want your kids going to a neighborhood school (which probably means you’re paying for private school.) that is your choice and your mistake. Maybe if you saved your money, got a second job you could have afforded the extra 50K to live in the prestigious Marine Park!
If you were not so ignorant maybe you would realize the advantages of living in Gerritsen Beach. Take advantage of your surroundings. We have to only volunteer fire department in all 5 boro’s, the only library on the water, we have GB Cares, Kiddie Beach, the Cort Club and its fund raisers, the kids have baseball, soccer, the fields and that great karate place that opened on the avenue.
If Gerritsen Beach is so horrible, why do people from all other communities come here to use the parks, the fields, and the library? Do they see something you don’t? Open your eyes. You sound very bitter.
Last, I would just like to say that if you raise your children right, teach them values and how to respect others and their surrounding your kids will not be one of the FEW trashy kids in the area that give the good kids and families a bad rap!
And just so you know, I have traveled and lived in other neighborhoods and there is nothing in the world like Gerritsen Beach! I feel lucky that I was able to buy a $600,000 house and move back to the neighborhood and raise my family. Especially, when I almost bought a semi-attached house in Marine Park that was more affordable!
Sounds to me that you’re just bitter because let me tell you something….. I have a two year old son and at 2 he knows what bad words and does not repeat them. Yes, it annoys me to have people curse in front of him. But, I bet it does not happen as much as you are implying.
Secondly, it is also true that you tend to dwell on the bad and not the good! So all you GB residents new and old be proud of your community. Pick up garbage, keep your houses, yards clean, teach your children respect and discipline!

Beachrat, here here!
My neighbors kids are great. they are active in sports, respectful and kind when I see them. what they do around the corner I donot know but I do beleve they are good kids. Their parents are involved with them. Dad has been palying ball with both children since they were old enough to catch a ball. Mom is always within earshot of the kids when they are in the yard.
Not all kids are rotten.
we take care of our homes. pull weeds from the curbs and respect each others property. Are we unusual or the norm? I want to beleive we are the norm.
People like to throw around the phrase white trash. I don’t think this truly applies.
Every community has pros & cons. Lets just start concentrating on the pros.
