Lundys Renovation Progress

Lundys in Sheepshead bay which has been closed since early 2007 and has stood since 1934, is currently being renovated to make way for a new gourmet food market and restaurant.

Lundy’s according to Steve Pappas, the building’s landlord, the as yet unnamed store is set to open early next year as a “Whole Foods” style market selling both international and organic products.

“international products” aka russian market. But whatever.. its better than an empty space or a condo.

I agree with above poster.. an outback steakhouse would have been nice.. or perhaps a starbucks :P

Nothing wrong with a quality russian market.

Would you rather have an Asian market or maybe another bodega. Most of the nice stores and delis that Russians run are Eastern European not like they sell dishes from Siberia.

I have no problem with ethnic markets. As another poster said, I too think the main problem with russian markets (or other local russian businesses) is that they are rude and tend not to encourage a clientelle outside of the areas Russian population. I’ve seen several with pricing signs only in russian.

There is a little korean bakery I love by the sheepshead bay train station and while they can not speak english well they try. They are polite and make you feel welcome for coming in. Thats just good business.

I personally would rather an asian market go in if it must be an international market at all. But thats just me – I really enjoy asian products and produce (especially japanese).

all you have to do is find an american tenant to pay the rents and you can eat all the hot dogs and hamburgers you want
im american born here my parents are from the ukraine if it werent for the “russians” you would be living in a slum it 20 years ago sheepshead and brighton were a mess you couldnt walk in the streets at 2am without looking over your back every 30 seconds now the community is wealthy with stores restaurants and its clean
and an italian or irish store is not american either right but no one is saying anything about that

i really dont care what kind of tenant goes as long as it is quality stuff i drive to dyker to a deli i like and i go to ave u to get fish and i go to brighton for certain russian food its just funny that people turn it into a race thing and not a good quality tenant thing

    Hay local broker,

The community was just fine before you came in it! Sheepshead bay and Brighton was not a mess like you try to make it sound. Beleive me you were not it’s saving grace!
And Dana is right! I know the bakery she’s spking about.
They welcome ALL customers! Not making this ethnic but “The Russian stores I’ve been in are not nice it’s like they don’t want our money. There rude to be honest.
And an Italion store and an Irish store is not American it’s what it says it is.
Not like some Russian stores I’ve kno

have you heard of spell check its funny because the one store i do shop in on brighton is a korean grocery they know me for 20 years and are very nice people i try to stay away from russian stores but thats not the point its about who pays the most money to rent the space and its a quality tenant not the nationality

Back to Lundys. Lundys was terrible in its day. The service sucked & the food was no better than Joe’s or any other on Emmons.
I love that this is a “landmark” and can’t be changed yet if you drive around the back you’ll see that they have altered the building so why not just knock it down.

Hey local broker, what is up with the fur coats and the food stamps? I have seen many of your people using food stamps and then loading their food in to a luxury car. I guess we could all open a store if we had our incomes and food stamps/welfare

i totally agree with you i see that shit all the time and im paying for it with my taxes these people come from a different world they come here and take advantage of any opening there is its not everyone but there are a few out there and thats how they live but understand its the new russians from the last 10-15 years not the russian jews that came here in the 70s it is what it is

Not the russian jews from the 70′s??? I worked in a pharmacy in sheepshead bay & they would come in to have the papers noterized stating the husband abandoned the family a week after landing in our fair city so the wife & children could get welfare & food stamps & medicaid.

The guy who got his meds with medicaid & demanded sealed bottles because he was shipping the meds to his daughter in russia. Give me a break. Scamming has been going on forever. Some people will lie & steal to get over. Others who really need assistance have too much pride to take it.

BUT Still what does this have to do with Lundys?
