Marine Park Civic Meeting Roundup

Well the other night I went to the Marine Park Meeting to find out more about the kids that cried.

It was a festive meeting, they had an opening ceremony with Marine color guards accompanied by the Boy Scouts and a Veterans group, then they played taps.

All of the politicians were there, telling everyone about their upcoming events and recent accomplishments, thats all typical and mostly boring.

The most interesting and un-boring out of all of the news was the Marsh Reconstruction being done by Anthony Weiner. They will be regrading the sand behind the nature center, replanting marshes to filter water, and adding more trails. As this was being said I couldn’t help but notice that I got more Gerritsen Beach news at this Marine Park meeting. I did try to ask for more information about this project via email to Weiners office but they haven’t really responded yet.

On to the kid “sadness” park, there was a group of about 10 neighbors that patiently waited to speak their mind about the park. When they started to ask the question, they were “politely” cut off by the president who then explained what was going to happen.

He explained that there will be a private meeting to “get ideas down on paper” sometime next week between the Marine Park Civic, the Local PTA and the Principal. Then they will hold a public meeting to discuss the park, after which they will finally present their concerns/ideas to the National Park Trust.

Some of their concerns are: People coming in from outside the neighborhood, kids drinking and breaking bottles in the park, and public access to the basketball hoops. The residents also want the NYPD to lock up the park at night at a set time at night instead of the “Dawn till Dusk” rule.

Here is a small photo gallery.
