New Dutch Farms Attempted Robbery

On the morning of Sunday May 18th, around 5:30 am two local “kids” attempted to break into New Dutch Farms (2876 Gerritsen Ave). They smashed the lock and door completely unaware that there is an alarm system. They were also completely unaware that their loud noises would wake up concerned citizens, one of which saw the two in progress, jump in their car, and was able to write down their license plate and call the police.

Police then went to the home owner of the car, saw the burglar tools, and found the two “kids” at home.

Old Dutch/New Dutch is so gross and it smells like a sewer. Lets comment on that!

I was in there with a cat running around (which doesn’t bother me if it is eating the mice) but clearly it is not. I bought a bag of chips that had mice holes in it.

And oh boy the smell! Buying food from a place that smells like a sewer is gross. Please clean your deli up! It is one of few left on the avenue and I would like to patronize it but I can’t when its a serious health hazard!

I had a sandwich and potato salad yesterday and the food smelled and tasted like the store, (nasty) I had to throw it out. Please clean up the place.

the people in new dutch (workers) are very nice. But the people taking the money go to help out buttering bagels and such and don’t wash their hands and don’t wear gloves. It’s really gross. I am hoping the owners read this and fix this problem.

nothing. reading it prompted me to voice my opinion about something that has been bothering. i was hoping if someone in authority in the store read it, they could fix the problem. Excuse me for not posting it where you see fit.

It would pain me to speak of ill of the workers when they really are very nice. It is much easier to do it this way than to have to show my face. Yes, it is the coward’s way(yes Mr./Ms. Anonymous) but I would feel bad facing them after they knew I complained.

I don’t know why you are so interested in this. You must not have much of a life. Or ..maybe you’re one of the owners??

It was a shot at possible fixing a problem without too many personalities involved. I am sorry that you think my attempt is pretty stupid. But I will take it from where it comes. Why not badger some of the other people who downright called the business a smelly cat/mouse hole with nasty food. Why attack me? It was a comment and suggestion that is not so unreasonable. Get a life!

I agree with anonymous. Donna, if you have a complaint and will be pained to speak ill of the nice workers, why then come here and air their dirty laundry. And by commenting with the name “donna” makes you feel like you are not anonymous you are wrong. Are you not pained to call someone who comments as Mr./Mrs. Anonymous a coward? Stop worrying about how old commenters, you seem like you need to get a life.

    Donna,

I understand that you are not comfortable walking into the store and complaining about the situation since you really don’t have an option to shop at another deli within walking distance.
Why don’t you write an anonymous letter to the owners explaining your concerns, which seem to also be the concerns of your neighbors. Make sure to mention the NYC Health Department at some point in the letter.

didn’t realize there was so many rules for commenting on this website. I am new to the sight and today, will be the last time I log on. disheartening to know that so many people in this neighborhood are so petty and narrow minded.

Why are you so angry, people have a right to voice their opinon, as you stated what you are doing is cowardly, if I saw something that disturbed me I would say something to them there and then.

I agree it’s gross and wrong to handle food without gloves, they can be fined by the health department if caught. The cat is gone by the way, happy?

I can understand why Donna doesn’t want to say anything. It becomes uncomfortable and we really do not have many choices for delis in the beach. I don’t think it smells nasty or like cat like some people have commented but I won’t attack them. But is not proper to handle food without gloves. I think everyone is getting way too sensitive. I don’t know if I would say something if I had noticed it but I guess now I will pay attention to who touches my food. I go there for cold cuts usually and not bagels. Their gray cat is gone but they have a new one and that doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing. i never saw the cats by the open food although I am not in there a lwhole ot. We are a close knit neighborhood and I think that hinders our ability sometimes to speak our mind because then so many people get involved. We are lucky to have this site that gives us information about our neighborhood and lets us share ideas. We just need to be more tolerant of each other
