Every politician has his enemies; Councilman Mike Nelson apparently has a lot and keeps piling up more.
It recently was exposed on the SBPBCivic.org forums that Councilman Mike Nelson, had his former Deputy Chief of Staff Robert Varley post to various websites including this site under the guise of City Insider. Every post that was ever written by Robert Varley aka “City Insider” was seen and approved by Mike Nelson. The identity was always a secret, which was important, since City Insiders opinions should never be linked back to Mike Nelson.
Varley left his position as Deputy Chief, under good terms in February 2008, and the forum account has been un-used by Varley since. However since February a Norman Chesler, who was a close friend of Mike and his wife Shela Nelson, had began commenting on GerritsenBeach.net. He has been threating that he would reveal things that will be detrimental to the Nelsons and others. However, it should be known that Chelser is someone who who’s admitted making the $56,000 in payoffs to Clarance Norman, the former chairman of the Kings County Democratic Party. Clarance was convicted of three felony counts of accepting illegal campaign contributions during his 2000 and 2002 re-election campaigns for his seat in the New York State Assembly and is currently serving a jail sentence. Chesler although his credibility is close to nil due to his illegal dealings, he still could say some damaging things.
Other than Chesler people have been saying some nasty things about Mike and Sheila Nelson. According to Varley the Nelsons then took action, blaming him for the nasty comments, then outing him as City Insider on the Forum as another poster because according to Varley “maybe that would make those nasty comments go away”.
Varley who attempted for days to get in contact with Mike Nelson took his story public.

SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT

I have been severely wronged by certain media and want to set the record straight. Unfortunately too time has passed for me to go after he specific reporter and paper–Wayne Barrett of the Village Voice– for his erroneous story of January 13, 2007 titled “The Sale of Justiceâ€. There are simply far too many inaccuracies in his article for me to just let it go. So, from my pen to your ear, I want to clarify one inconsistency.
To do this most effectively, I will factually retort one main issue which you GB.net raised regarding I gave Clarence Norman $56,000 dollars.
According to Wayne Barrett, writer for the Voice he learned that I gave this money to Clarence. He was fed this information by an ADA friend who just so happens to work for Charles Hynes. After an investigation which was done by the DAs office, this allegation was not proven. The real outcome the DAs office learned from my bank records, the money in question was part of my salary. The individual who fed this b……t worked out an immunity deal to save his ass.
I will stop rambling here regarding this issue as I could truly go on forever and upset the entire Brooklyn Democratic Party.
Regarding the real Robert F Varley, as I remember it, the day you were hired by Michael Nelson, Mike was thrilled to have hired you as his Deputy Chief of Staff and his wife Sheila agreed.
The 3 or 4 times we met; you gave me a positive impression that you were articulate, bright and showed loyalty to MN. I was pleased that MN hired you.

With regards to the May 9, 2008 post .ROBERT F VARLEY did not post this. I believe a former working associate of MNs used you as a scapegoat {and I believe I know who it was) This ROB VARLEY is attempting to get even/back at MN for terminating a (his) family member who had a falling out with MN and was let go. It appears this ROB has his own agenda to smear many good and faithful friends of MN including you the real Robert F Varley. This (ROB) stole our Identity.
TO The real Robert F Varley:You stated regarding my credibility is close to “nil†due to my illegal dealings WHICH ARE WHAT? Do you know me? For the record I served in the Vietnam war (era) and became a disabled war veteran. Did you ever serve in the military? Did you put yourself thru school and graduate from Columbia University?? Are you a member of MENSA? Who are you? Who is your GOD-FATHER in politics?? Regarding my financial contributions they were all given by me from 30 years of working and I had no connections many of my financial contributions which I gave were given under the direction of an elected official and not Michael C Nelson. For the record Mike and Sheila were totally against me giving anything.
Now regarding who I gave my contributions to are:
Mike Geller and club, TJ club/Bernard Catcher, Police Foundation, Chaim Deutsch(Shomrim), Shomrim Police Dept(NYPD) Scholarship fund, Clarence Norman, Anthony Weiner, Frank Seddio, Elliot Spitzer, Carles Hynes, Lew Fidler, Peter Vallone Sr. Gifford Miler, Dominic Recchia Michael Nelson and many, many more politicians and there events plus non-profit organizations, dating over 30 years.
Regarding the long term friendship I had with the Nelsons was just that. In future blogs I will talk about how MNs enemies wanted me to persuade MN to throw his vote to Lew Fidler in order for him to become council speaker. These enemies I call them really expected for me to do this. Remember MN is/was my friend.
My only beef I have with the Nelsons is that how they turned their backs to me when I was being investigated. Im sure the higher ups in the Democratic Party told them to do so.
It’s funny, all who knew me and said “we are your friends†just turned away and must have said “Norman who?†You took my money contributions when I was under investigation, maybe I should ask for them back. What do you think??
Regarding Sheila Nelson I hope she has a speedy recovery.
As we all know giving contributions is part of the political game. All you elected officials and public servants accepted my money, gifts and stamps. You all knew what was going on regarding me and when it was beneficial to you and accepted my financial help and got it and when I needed it YOU ALL TURNED AWAY.
With regards to MN, who ever spoke negatively about him is wrong. MN has and always did have integrity, loyalty to his constituents and his friends. MICHAEL NELSON WALKS LIKE A MAN, BECAUSE HE IS HIS OWN MAN WITH INTEGRITY.
Lastly, I will end this blog with the following two quotations:
