There is a total lack of local newspaper websites.
In our area we have the Bay Currents, Brooklyn View, Our News, Bay News etc… all have attempted, gave up and ultimately failed at developing a quality website. The latest attempt to launch a quality website is by Courier Life. They publish the Bay News and other local papers. They have launched a new website called YourNabe.com completely dropping their other domains (BayNewsBrooklyn.com, KingsCourier.net)
My first impressions of YourNabe.com are, that it is the worst domain name that anyone can ever think of. What the hell does “Nabe” even mean?! It sounds like a disease. If you look Nabe up in a dictionary it means “neighborhood film theater”. Now their domain name makes completely no sense by using a really old word, then using the word incorrectly.
If I ever heard someone use “Nabe” in a sentence I think I would have to kick them in the face for using such a stupid word.
I could go on and on about the design, logos, functionality, bad coding, and end-user interface, but I wont. The site just sucks.
Oh and apparently they don’t know how to code because the whole site breaks in different browsers. Hand code your html like the NYTimes.

Well said GB.net. The local news coverage around here is awful. I am not just blowing smoke up your a** but you really are the only one around here who offers some real insight.
Besides their web site’s sucking the news sucks too. Joe Maniscaclo and the rest of the Courier Life knuckleheads can not write for sh*t. They never get a story right and clearly they protect their friends.
Thanks again GB. I know some folks give you a hard time if this web log goes off topic from Gerritsen Beach, but I for one applaud and thank you. THis is a real service to the community at large, not just Gerritsen beach. Loved, hated, but never ignored may you do this noble work for a long time to come.
BTW keep the MBNA stuff coming, I love reading about it, then seeing the Nelson’s get into a pissing match with their “old friends”. For a story you should secretly follow all our area electeds for a day to see what they really do
I bet Nelson does not even leave his house until at least noon each day. Then he probably goes out to eat with his wife and does some shopping. After which he will then stop into his tax payer funded office around 4:30 and say he had a busy day. Leave promptly at 5. I know I am getting personal here but the guy achieves nothing.

Thanks Norman you have been a real help and friend, unlike Sheila and Mike. Too bad Sheila no longer has Gail Shawn around so she can trash talk about you and Geller all the time. As far as I am concerned you are each Giants among men, while Nelson is a twit well out of his league.

I agree with Julie that GBNet is great and very useful about what is going on in our neighborhood. keep up the good work, I don’t get involved with politics so I have no idea of whatever else is going on in Manhattan Beach and nor do I care.

You got a case of the Nabes! Sounds like an STD. Courier Life should just completely sell out already and move.
I like this site better than the local papers. The Green Streets news here was by far superior than any local paper.
Go to more meetings for us and report back so we don’t have to!

I feel like I need to chime in here so here goes…
All of the Mike G’s I know in GB are a bunch of dickheads. This Mike (I prob know him) is no exception.
I know who Daniel is, I dont exactly “hang out” with him but hes a decent guy, and as far as I know hes batting for the right team, :) and has a good batting average.
Mike G, does need to grow a pair. There are alot of people in the beach that know think they know everything about someone or some family because they heard something. This mike character thinks he knows who Daniel because his father works for golden. Who the hell cares who his father works for, even if he got 100% of his information from golden himself, does it matter?
As far as this guy saying happy news hunting I guess hes saying that this site doesn’t offer real news. Does anything else we have even come close?! Our News sucks, and the other papers are mostly about other neighborhoods. This site is awesome I basically check it every day at work for local happenings.
The more I think of who this mike guy is, the more I think I can “out” him, but I will wait and see.
