Just when we thought the Green Streets project was dead, turns out, it may never have actually died.
In the February 21st issue of the Bay News, a reporter from the newspaper asked the DOT about the project and the aftermath of the meeting. A DOT spokesperson said that “the project was still being discussed internally between local elected officials and the city” and that “everyone is going to take a second look at it.” Additionally, they stated that the meeting “alone did not kill it.”
Are we being lied to? Remember the rumors that the project was going to be forced on us? Now it might seem that way. Why even call a meeting with the community if DOT officials are going to talk about the issue amongst themselves, after the fact. It appears that, Marty Golden’s decision to “pull the plug” at the Green Streets meeting may not have been final.
Toward the end of the article Joe Maniscalco, who wrote the Bay News article, reported that the project being “dead may be premature”. Who reported that it was dead? I wonder? Maybe it was my devil of a post that was titled Green Streets Dead.
It also seems like he needed a filler for his article so he used my “after 30 minutes Marty killed green streets for the DOT” talking point. I’m all for sharing information when its sourced. I can safely say that he did not look at his watch when Marty Golden called the meeting. On the contrary, he looked at my post and/or my video and took my talking point.
I cite and source everything I get and use on this site. When I get no mention or people use my images without proper citation it annoys me. After all, this entire site is licensed under a “Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works”. Meaning that, anyone can use my content, non commercially, as long as they source me.
Oh and Joe nice zinger: “the senator had a devil of a time”. Really? Did He? Ugh.

A friend of mine left the town hall meeting saying “it was a done deal” and that nothing the community had to say would be taken into consideration.

Not sure where your friend was getting their information from, but when I left the meeting Marty Golden had ruled out greenstreets completely,.. although a Politician lying??? When has that ever happened???
If they try to do it anyway I think they are in for a hell of a fight judging from the peeps in the meeting, myself being one of them.

Golden specifically said (on tape, mind you, thanks admin) that it was always up to us to decide if we wanted them or not. How is it that it can be over-ridden?

How can it just be up to the community when the safety of the public is involved? The community has a limited say. Golden’s power is limited also. Funny line about choo choo charlie, but my daughter really is an engineer for the DOT.

I personally think that if the DOT would go ahead, they should know after all the comments at the PS277 meeting, people would take jackhammers to take it apart.

First of all I think it was terible that state senator marty golden showed up 30 minutes late to his own meeting, leaving all of us waiting. Adding insult to injury, he was totally unprepared recieving notes from one of his staff, claiming that we have received traffic lights, which was completely untrue.
This shows a total lack of respect for us and I am sure he wouldn’t of done this to his beloved bay ridge.
He has forgotten that GB has got him elected.
Because he hasn’t had a primary or a general election he has this arrogance now that we don’t matter. I think it’s about time we made sure he had a primary this year and a competitor in the general election. I am sure we can find someone in our community who would show more of a concern for us.

First off I think it was terrible that senator marty golden showed up 30 minutes late to his own meeting leaving us all waiting. He was completely unprepared, handeds notes by one of his staff saying that we had traffic lights installed, which is untrue.
This showed a lack of respect to our community. He wouldn’t of done this if it was his beloved bay ridge. He has forgotten that GB got him elected.
This lack of respect is what happens when you don’t have a primary or a general election competitior for years. He needs both a primary and a general election to make him remember us and treat us with respect. We should find someone suitable from our community to run against him in the primary and general election. Surely, we can find someone who will be more concerned about our needs. And let’s send marty packing.

From the pictures I saw of the meeting, most of the people could not even pick up a jackhammer. Maybe they can break a few baby trees in half. Some of their kids and grandkids have that move down pat.

I wish to respond to the recent postings on this website, following a press story that has caused speculation among Gerritsen Beach residents, that the Greenstreets Project has not been officially been removed from consideration. I wish to infom you that this speculation is unwarranted and not true.
As the District Manager and Press Secretary for Senator Marty Golden, I wish to reiterate that from the very beginning of this project, Senator Golden and the other area elected officials have maintained that the community was to decide if this project was to happen. As a result of the meeting, Senator Golden and other elected officials, along with the Department of Transportation, have officially agreed to no longer consider this plan for Gerritsen Avenue.
I thought it was necessary to respond so that this message board can receive an official position from Senator Golden’s office and that the community can move ahead. Please be assured that Senator Golden is respectful of the wishes of the residents of Gerritsen Beach.
Thank you. If anyone has questions regarding this project, or any other matter requiring assistance, please contact Senator Golden’s office at 3610 Quentin Road or by calling at (718) 627-3659.

John,
I only took my information from the Bay News article that appeared after the meeting.
I am glad this speculation is unwarranted and not true.
My friend Choo Choo Charlie was right, I guess he’s the real engineer…

Somebody must know what is being said behind DOT walls, or why would Mr. Quaglione bother issuing an open statement clearly stating that the green streets are a dead issue? If I were representing an elected official, I don’t think I’d take it upon myself to make such a statement without proof positive to back up the claim. His statement appeared to be pretty concrete. No pun intended. That’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.
