Property Owners Meeting: The Run Up to the Green Streets Meeting

So I went to the property owners meeting, and unlike the 61st Precinct Meeting it wasn’t that boring. It was the exact opposite. The topics that were discussed were:

  • Bulkheads Project is going to start on the 25th
  • Crime Rate
  • Lacon Ct project and soil testing
  • Knapp and U Project for sidewalk permits
  • and of course Green Streets

Ah Green Streets, the project no one seems to want. Well this is the deal, there will be a meeting this upcoming Wednesday at PS 277. There will be some very important people there and the point of this meeting is to have them listen to the community. If there is disconcern and no one shows up they will assume that everyone is for it and the project will go forward. There will be time to review the plan at the school. There will be posters and a presentation explaining this.

The Property Owners and GB Cares both voted against such a proposal. Some of the interesting points of this plan raised at the meeting were:

  • Changing the Direction of Burnett
  • No Left from Avenue X to Avenue
  • Gotham and Florance to be both turned one way
  • and other street changes

Ive been told that adjustments can be made but it is my impression is that it is all or nothing with Marty Golden. Even more interesting, it is a becoming a hot political issue with local politicians. Marty is all by himself on this. Alan Maisel and Lew Fidler have not been invited to Marty’s meeting and express that if we don’t want it we shouldn’t get it. Is the invitation in the mail?

Also at the meeting they briefly murmured about notifying the community other than their usual methods but that conversation went away and no definitive action or stance was taken. One resident said that it is the Property Owners responsibility to notify the community because the flyer’s left in the stores, left on bus shelters, and ads in Our News, are not enough.

So come to this meeting and come with an open mind. If you don’t come and show up, this project will happen.

I was going to say be civil and calm about this, but if you are it wont be as interesting for me.

If you want to discuss more, other than in the comments, come to the message board.

The usual suspects will show up to the Green Streets meeting – GB Cares and the Property Owners — to discuss the proposed project with the decision makers. I’m sure these people are fine representatives of the community as a whole and will adequately communicate our concerns. However, I think it would be a disservice to the community if residents decide not go to the meeting, thinking that they should just leave it up to GB Cares and the Property Owners to take care of it.

If a huge crowd of concerned community members show up to not only voice opinions but to LISTEN to what the politicians have to say, I think it will be in our favor. The more people that show up, the clearer it will be that this is an issue that affects the entire neighborhood. If only a few members of GB Cares and the Property Owners show up — it will look like the community is only passively concerned and that it doesn’t really matter.

You will probably get a better understanding of the project and I’m sure many questions will be answered through their presentation. Complain all you want about the Green Streets, but if the issue REALLY matters to you, then go to the meeting and do something about it.

Why are they not notifying the neighborhood?! Isn’t that their ONLY reason for existence?

Where are the petitions for and against?! Where are the flyer’s door to door? Its $250 tops to print and deliver those damn things. or mail them. a$$holes.

if it wasn’t for this site I would not know about this meeting! I will make sure im there.

Hey, nice to bash the GBPOA. Next time, keep it to constructive comments. Were you at the meeting last night because I don’t remember anybody offering to deliver 5,000 flyers door to door over the next few days. Golden’s Office was supposed to send flyers to every house. A lot of people got them, some said they did not. It’s hard to tell wheter or not people just think it’s junk mail and throw this kind of stuff away.

I got the flyer from Golden’s office in the mail. I’ve seen many copies of it around. People should definitely attend.

Wasn’t everyone just complaining about getting flyers?
Now you want them to go door to door with flyers?
Keep your junk, save your time and Money. We all know how to find about about these meetings so if u want to go, find out when and where and be there.
