Then they go across Whitney and W. They make a left on Allen and I assume they go down Ebony or Celeste. It is a matter of time before an old or young person gets run over. There are a lot of seniors on Plumb 1st. I see how fast and reckless they are driving. Of course the SUV'S are the worst offenders. I have to say, I had the same thoughts that some of you wrote about above. The traffic being diverted to the sidestreets will be outrageous (as if Dictum and Celeste Courts aren't bad enough) and snow removal. Granted, we haven't had snow in quite some time, but think about what a disaster that might be if the time comes. I pose this question: Are they proposing these green streets to be as wide as the "lines" that are on the avenue now? If that's the case, we are in for problems. Someone on the message board posted about the kids playing in the lines. While I definitely agree with this point in witnessing it firsthand, I must point out that kids did not play in the middle of Gerritsen Avenue when we had regular dividing lines. Even more traffic than normal will be diverted off of the Avenue onto those blocks, threatening our children who play there and increasing noise and air pollution in a concentrated area. I know someone who works as an engineer in DOT. She told me at least a year before the AVE. was changed that it was going to change. She told me over a year ago that green streets was coming. She told me it could have been avoided, but it was observed that people are still driving too fast and passing in the middle of the AVE. I know people will write about the double parking.
