Seba Avenue Park / Gerritsen Skate Park looks like its about 99% done, which has not gone unnoticed by neighborhood kids. They are anxious to go into the new park early and try out the jumps with their skates or bikes. Sometimes while passing the park you can see both large crowds or just a few kids enjoying the space.
Recently there has been at least one incident involving park police and kids skating in the park. Word is that the park police are wielding batons, threatening to use mace and issuing summonses to empty the park. The park is technically closed; the area is fenced off and construction materials are still on the property. Contractors won’t be able to open the park any time soon if it is already being damaged and needing constant repair. However, the park police should not need to resort to batons and mace to clear out a few kids having fun in a park.
Believe me when I say I feel for those kids who are peacefully skating at the park. I do realize that they know the park isn’t open and are fine with that. Just don’t get caught, don’t get hurt, and don’t mess anything up.
But I don’t feel for those kids who I’ve seen riding their dirt bikes and quads in the park. They should go back weeds.
They need to finish this thing already, it was supposed to be done by “Summer 2007″, what is the hold up? As far as the kids are concerned a lot of these kids are nice kids but there are a lot of these kids that have no respect and are nasty and can get violent themselves. They are the ones who throw eggs and rocks at buses so they don’t even go down Gerritsen on Halloween, throw garbage cans through the bus shelters and are out of control.
They also block the sidewalks and don’t move when people walk by, like they own it.
As I said, there are a lot of nice kids in the neighborhood, but let’s stop pretending they are all angels and the cops are always wrong, I have had my property damaged by these supposed “Angels”.
Just saying, let’s keep it in perspective.

I understand why you signed yourself anonymous, you don’t get it. There’s nothing wrong with riding motorcycles, it’s riding it responsibily, not running up and down Gerritsen avenue like the Indy 500. It’s also against the law to ride them in the weeds, people walk back there kids play back there, there is a plane field back there. The memorial on Gerritsen is because of someone riding his motorcycle irresponsibly and got himself killed. Darwin’s theory at work I say. By the way, I own a motorcycle and the people I hang out with who are my age are not losers. Probably why there are not memorials on Gerritsen Avenue for them. There are a lot of decent, hardworking people and no neighborhood is perfect.

The statement about the 63 pct line is true. The fields belong to Parks department. The line is at the east side of Gerritsen ave sidewalk, which is 63pct and Gerritsen Avenue is 61pct. PS277 and IS278 is 61pct.

First of all this is a dirtbiking and ATV community. The kids go up and down the ave is cause were all nasty and none of ur old friends could ride like us. Yea tha kid was on a streetbike doing 140 mph. What are u saying unless the cr 500 comes back out noone is doing that on an atv or dirtbike , and who cares what other neighborhoods think noone has it like us and the parks department our all jerkoffs they will never have authority . We live in a sick neighborhood with crazy kids which is a bad thing in some ways and good in other. You guys had it easy u didnt have flattop u got smacked by the cop we dont we go to the or bookings!!
