Manhattan Beach and their Bunker Mentality

This isn’t Gerritsen Beach related but deserves a bit of attention.

Dr. Ron Biondo, President of the Manhattan Beach Community Group, is holding a emergency meeting on Thursday, June 21 @ 8:00 PM, in response to “graffiti, litter and other destruction“. Because of this litter Dr. Biondo wants to:

  • Privatize his community’s public beach
  • Have the NYPD at both sides of that foot bridge checking ID’s.
  • Set up one entrance to the beach and have metal detectors.

Manhattan Beach is not a dangerous neighborhood.

Dr. Biondo’s Email below.

From Dr Ron Biondo:

Hello Players!

The Emergency meeting for MB Residents is set for Thursday, June 21 @ 8:00 PM @ the Mac theater lobby level KBCC.

I want a large turn out. I have already reached out to
1) Theresa Scavo
2) Mike N
3) Larry Calman (MB Park)
4) Congressman Weiner
5) NYPD

I will contact Senator Kruger, Assemblyman Cymbrowitz, Someone in NYPD School safety and possibly school principles of area schools.

ALL IDEAS ARE IN PLAY!
They are:

1) Privatize the beach
2) Charge an admission
3) Close the beach on a moments notice once the thugs, oops I mean people start to arrive
4) Have NYPD barricades along Oriental Blvd to remove them from the neighborhood and prevent them from strolling down the side streets
5) Surveillance cameras
6) Arrest them for truancy
7) Set up one entrance to the beach and have metal detectors.
8 ) Have NYPD @ both sides of the bridge checking ID’s.

ENOUGH ALREADY.

In addition to the shooting there was graffiti, litter and other destruction as well.

PLEASE REACH OUT TO EVERYONE IN MB TO COME DOWN. I think this is one issue that unites us all.

All the best,

Ron

I dont think thats such a far fetched idea at all. I moved into our neighborhood 4 years ago, and one of the first things i thought was how this is a great and comparitively safe place to live. I have often talked with other neighbors about how we should barricade the corner of Allen and Knapp and limit the access of certain “types” who we dont need in our neighborhood

That is one of the most small-minded comments I’ve ever read. Let’s hide away and hope the big bad world doesn’t hurt us – or do you just not like things — and people — who are different?

  3. I’d just want to encourage everyone to attend this meeting in Manhattan Beach and let Dr. Biondo know that (1) what he says is not kept in a vacuum, and (2) things that happen in one community affect others. And let’s not make the same mistake Dr. Biondo did and paint all of Manhattan beach with the same brush – I have been contacted by many people who disagree with Dr. Biondo’s position.

Oh and by the way – the supposed shooting and stabbing that Dr. Biondo used as the basis for this meeting? Never happened.

Get over yourself Gene, find someone else to harrass in your own neighborhood. Other than the handfull of people who think as poorly as you do, everyone else in Manhattan Beach is indeed in favor of better security measures for the area.
There mere title of “bunker mentality” are your own words, not those of anyone in Manhattan Beach. Keep blowing things out of proportion, including your own credibility (or lack thereof)

This is not in any way gene’s site

  6. While I don’t own this site, I’m certainly support it and enjoy visiting.

Anonymous – actually the term “bunker mentality” was coined by a member of the Manhattan Beach Community Group at last month’s meeting to characterize putting in surveillance cameras! Given the situation, it seems apt. :-)

Oh, and this isn’t an issue for a single neighborhood – once you talk about privatizing a public park, it involves everyone. The Manhattan Beach neighborhood doesn’t own Manhattan Beach Park. I know, shocking, isn’t it?

As far as your security goes, of course you’re entitled to be safe – you’re just not entitled to trample on my and others’ rights doing it!

nobody trampled on anybody’s rights, and nothing was privatized – relax yourself.
The e-mail (which you had no right to post publicly as it was not addressed to you) was just reflecting opinions of residents. The point of the meeting would have been to determine which ideas would be realistic and which would not be.
While this may not be Gene’s site, you sure do a good job passing on his propoganda.

  8. You’re right, no one trampled on anyone’s right – because word got out thanks to sites like this before anything could’ve happened!

As far as posting the e-mail, it was forwarded on to me after it was forwarded on to several other people – are you honestly going to tell me what I can do with what comes into my inbox? Plus, the purpose of the e-mail was to get people to a meeting! It was meant to be made public!

Finally, time to play “Who’s the Liar!” According to his posting, Ron said it was all his opinion and had nothing to so with MB residents. Even the Post picked up on that. You sau “The e-mail…was just reflecting opinions of residents.”

One of you is telling a fibber… shame shame! :-) Or maybe you’re just making up stuff as you go along…

Finally, as far as this being “my propaganda” – all I’ve done is commented on what someone else wrote. I haven’t solicited any other opinions, I didn’t seek out pres coverage – it just so happens that lots and lots and lots of people share in that opinion, and they told two friends, and they told two friends and so on. As GBNet would say “It’s the power of the blog!”

But calling all of this “my propaganda” is actually good spin control, deflect blame onto someone else. Good move! Too bad so many see right through you, it could’ve worked.

Talk to you later, sport, as I’m sure you won’t be able to resist responding. Looking forward to it! Hey, maybe you’ll even get over being shy and “anonymous” and actually man up to say who you really are!

    But I doubt it.
